It's Raining Awards for Atletico de Kolkata!
27th September 2015
In a glittering ceremony held on Sunday evening at the Novotel hotel, the Football Players Association of India (FPAI) gave away the Indian Football Awards (IFA) for 2014. In an event that saw greats like Shyam Thapa and Subrata Bhattacharjee in attendance, ATK head coach Antonio Habas was chosen as the Best ISL coach of 2014, and striker Iain Hume as the ISL Foreign Player of The Year.
Coach Habas on receiving the honour said, "I couldn't have got this award without the help of my players". He also added that "India has a fantastic future in football". Encouraging words from a great coach like him! When asked about Kolkata, he said, " I'm very happy to be in Kolkata, and I identify with the city and the people!"
ATK's star striker Iain Hume was thrilled to be bestowed the honour of the best ISL Foreign Player of the year 2014. Amidst loud cheers from his ATK teammates, who were also present at the function, he accepted his award and said, "to be named the player of the year last season was a massive honour" for him. When asked about his ISL experience last year, he said that while it "took (him) a while to get used to it...after 2 weeks it was fine...the team (Kerala Blasters) worked very hard". He also mentioned that it was "great to play with Borja and Josemi".
It was a good day in office for the ATK boys. They won their practice match against Aryan FC earlier in the day, and rounded it off with the celebration, courtesy of the FPAI!
