One of the most anticipated game in the ISL so far saw the only two unbeaten teams battle it out at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium. The question in everyone's mind was, who's going to emerged victorious in this game. Both the teams came into this game after drawing against their last opponents in the League.
The ATK side saw four changes being made in the Starting XI in comparison to the team that drew against FC Goa. Jose Luis Espinosa Arroyo, Bikramjit Singh, Lalrindika Ralte, Juan Belencoso were the changes that appeared in the lineup.
Living up to the hype that was created, it was an action-power packed game filled with a lot of chances and saves for both the teams. However, ATK's brilliance through a well played team effort won them three crucial points and a spot in the second position just a point below the table leaders, Northeast United FC keeping in mind that ATK still has a game in hand.
The first few minutes of the game saw Delhi Dynamos FC taking charge of the game but it wasn't too late before ATK gained momentum and fought back. The ball was played around from one side to another with both teams pushing in with their attacking play. ATK started their attack with our power duo - Hume and Doutie, threatening the opponent’s defence through Doutie's magnificent crosses and Hume's strikes. It was at the eighth minute that Hume came really close with his attempts and tried to slide in a goal pass Santana. As the game progressed we saw a series of shots taken by ATK and as Hume was introduced with another opportunity in the fifteenth minute, the linesman raised his flag for a offside.
The game's first yellow card was drawn for Bikramjit Singh as he fouled Milan Singh in the twenty first minute of the game. A minute later Delhi Dynamos looked to capitalised on an open goal as Majumder went forward to save the ball, it was Prabir Das who then came to the rescue with a clearance. As we hit the half hour mark, Belencoso had a close encounter with Santana who managed to get his hands on the ball before Belencoso was able to take his shot. Within moments, Dika provided Belencoso with another opportunity to head home a goal but his efforts were in vain as Santana made sure that the ball didn't cross the line. The game rolled on and Majumder displayed his brilliant goal keeping skills yet as he made a series of saves when Delhi Dynamos was attacking our front through Gadze's shot on target, Marcos's attempt to slide in a goal and Rupert’s side footer to get the ball into the goal. However, the storm continued to rage on as Hume made a pass to Doutie on the right flank who curled it just in time for Belencoso to head in the ball which goes wide. The commotion in the box lead to Sereno being awarded a yellow card and a minute later Gadze also picked up a card for his foul on Belencoso.
The last five minutes of the first half with a minute saw both the teams making their final attempts to get in a goal just before the end of regulated time. Doutie takes control of the ball and runs along the wings, cutting through the defence of Delhi Dynamos FC and passes it to Hume whose efforts goes past the post. Milan Singh also made his presence felt as he tried to convert the corner kick with his shot that plainly goes over the crossbar.
At half time, the scoreline read:
Atletico de Kolkata 0:0 Delhi Dynamos FC
The second half of the game kicked-off with ATK making its first substitution as a yellow carded Bikramjit Singh made way for Jewel Raja. Within minutes into the second half, Gadze had a chance to get his name on the score sheet with his shot that was crossed from Marcelo but went straight into Majumder's hand. The wheel of the game started rolling in favour of ATK with attempted strikes from Doutie and Hume as they hammered the defence also putting Santana to the test. After a strings of attack from both teams, Marcos Tebar made a rough foul on Dika which resulted in him being awarded a yellow card.
At the one hour mark of the game, both sides were eager for a goal. Dika got his shot at a goal when Doutie presented him with a cross after neatly cutting through the defence of Delhi Dynamos but his strike hit the woodwork. Tiri also made his attempt for a goal as he tried to head in a goal extended to him by a free kick from Tiri. It was Delhi Dynamos FC who then threatened ATK as they were given a free kick from outside the box which led to a volley by Ruben Rocha but saved by Majumder. ATK retaliated with a series of attacks and another attempted headed by Tiri was made with Doutie cross from the corner kick.
There was an outpour of attacks, defensive tactics and the goal that sealed the game. Gadze's run in the box, was stopped by Sereno's foul from behind costing him a sent-off as he received his second yellow card of the game. Delhi Dynamos was awarded the penalty and as Marcelo took his shot, his attempt blazes over the crossbar as he misses the opportunity of giving his team the lead. A minute later, Doutie is taken down in the box as he tries to slip through Lalchhawnkima. Ian Hume takes his spot, scored the winning goal and becomes the highest goal scorer in ISL history.
The last ten minutes of the game saw Arnab coming on for Didika and Lara for Hume not before he made his final attempt at another goal which sailed over the crossbar. As the game drew to an end, Delhi Dynamos FC continued to fight on with attempts from Gadze but ATK stood their ground and continued their unbeaten run in the ISL this season.
